By resolution No. 337 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan of June 15, 1992, in order to create the necessary conditions for the training, advanced training and retraining of aviation personnel, the training center for advanced training and retraining of the staff of the State Concern Azerbaijan Hava Yollari was transformed into the National Academy of Aviation (NAA).
The first issue of the Academy was held in 1996, the number of graduates was 80.
As of 2012 on the full-time and correspondence departments of the Academy in 20 specialties 2154 students were trained.
Training of aviation specialists is carried out at 5 faculties:
Flight-technical operation of air transport
Transport technologies
Aerospace faculty
Economy and Law
Correspondence faculty
The training is conducted in Azerbaijani and Russian languages. The condition for admission to study is the presence of a complete secondary or secondary special education.
The Academy's material and technical base includes four modernly equipped educational buildings with specialized audiences, training laboratories, flight simulators for various types of aircraft, the Information and Computing Center (IVC) and a modern sports complex. Specialized audiences are equipped with modern computer multimedia equipment, technical means of training and knowledge control.
In NAA there is a modern electronic library, as well as a book fund, complete with scientific and technical, educational-methodical, reference and special literature. The library fund is constantly updated and replenished.
With NAA, the Research Institute of Aviation with pilot production operates, the task of which is to ensure fast and prompt execution of a range of works from scientific developments to their introduction into production. In 2011, the institute developed special mobile radar devices "ETAI-R" and "ETAI-RV".
In NAA there is also a museum of aviation (opened in 2008), the main task of which is to search, collect, study, preserve, propagandize and communicate to future generations materials reflecting the history of aviation in Azerbaijan. The museum's fund is 6 thousand exhibits.
