Institute of Semiconductor Physics of Ukraine

V.E. Institute of Semiconductor Physics. Lashkarev (ISP) NAS of Ukraine was founded in 1960 on the basis of several departments and laboratories of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in accordance with the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR of September 3, 1960, No. 1449 "On the organization of the Institute of Semiconductors of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR" and the corresponding decision of the Presidium The National Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR of October 7, 1960.

The determining factor was the following: at that time there were two scientific schools at the Physics Institute, and they worked in the field of physics of nonequilibrium processes in semiconductors and in the theory of semiconductors. These schools were headed by prof. V.E. Lashkaryov, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and Doctor of Science (Physics and Mathematics), prof. SI Pekar, respectively. Among the outstanding Ukrainian scientists established by the NASU Prizes are, in particular, the Lashkarev and Pekar awards.

A significant contribution to the creation and organization of the Institute's future activities was made by the first heads of research departments and laboratories established in 1960-1961: Dr. of Physical and Mathematical Sciences M.F. Deigen, Cand. Phys. (Physics and Mathematics) Lysytsa, Doctor of Science (physics and mathematics). Prof. IN AND. Lyashenko, Cand. Techn. Science. Misetskaya, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences O.G. Miseluk, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Dachenko, PhD in Physics and Mathematics. Science. Rashba, Cand.Tech.Sci. Svechnikov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences O.V. Snitko, Candidate of Technical Sciences (Physics and Mathematics) G.А. Fedorus.

The Institute of Semiconductors was renamed the Institute of Semiconductor Physics in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine No. 353 of December 30, 1992. The Institute was named V.E. Lashkaryov in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 714-r of 25.12. 2002 and the corresponding resolution of NASU No. 6 of 04.02.2003.

V.E. Lashkaryov (1903-1974), Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, was the first Director of the Institute (1960-1970). From 1970 to 1990 the institute was headed by O.V. Snitko, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1928-1990). S.V. Svechnikov, Academician of NASU, headed the Institute from 1991 to 2003. From 2003 to 2014 the Institute was headed by V.F. Machulin, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 2014, the Institute is headed by Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Alexander Belyaev. Many outstanding Ukrainian scientists work and work at the Institute. Among them are six academicians of NASU: V.E. Lashkaryov (1903-1974), M.P. Lisitsa (1921-2012), S.I. Pekar (1917-1985), S.V. Svechnikov (1926-2017), O.V. Snitko (1928-1990), V.F. Machulin (1951-2014); 14 Corresponding Members of NASU: О.Е. Belyaev M.Ya. Valah, E.F. Wenger, M.F. Deigen (1918-1985), V.P. Kladko V.O. Kochelap, V.S. Lysenko V.G. Litovchenko, B.O. Nesterenko (1938-2003), P.F. Olexenko F.F. Sizov V.M. Sorokin, K.B. Tolpigo (1916-1998), M.K. Sheynkman (1929-2009); 82 Doctors of Science (including 51 professors); 212 candidates of science.

Research and development is carried out by eight scientific units. These are: Department of Theoretical Problems, Department of Photoelectronics, Department of Optoelectronics, Department of Semiconductor Optics, Department of Surface Physics and Microelectronics, Department of Physical and Technical Problems in Semiconductor Infrared Technology, Department of Sensory Technology and Materials, Department of Structural and Elemental Analysis of Semiconductor Materials and Systems. These units include research units: thirty divisions and five laboratories, headed mainly by doctors of sciences.

The Institute of Semiconductor Physics is engaged in fruitful scientific and technical cooperation with a number of universities and research centers in the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Israel, Japan, Germany, China and other countries, and maintains close scientific ties with leading scientific institutions of the Baltic States, Russia and other member countries of the Union of Independent States.

The collection "Optoelectronics and semiconductor technology" is published, and the journal "Semiconductor physics, quantum electronics and optoelectronics" is published and distributed in full in English by the Institute.
